The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, has issued notices to the District Magistrate and the Superintendent of Police of Sitapur district of Uttar Pradesh for the alleged beating of two persons in police custody. It resulted in the death of one person and serious injuries to other.

Taking a suo motu cognizance of a media report, the Commission has asked for an explanation in the matter within eight weeks. The NHRC has also directed them to take appropriate action with regard to the investigation of the case. It has also asked them to submit Magisterial inquiry report, post-mortem report and independent investigation report in this regard.
