Curtains for Team India in World Cup as title defenders lose to Australia in semi final

It was curtains for defending champions India in the cricket World Cup 2015. After a fantastic run in the tournament, favourite India fell at the semi final hurdle. The Men-in-Blue fell short of 95 runs while chasing 329 posted by Australia in the second semi final played at Sydney today. It was a run chase that left over a billion Indian hearts aching. A score of 300 plus to chase, a team with a lot of potential match winners, pressure of being the defending champions and a strong side which exploits its home condition best. This summarizes what happened to India at Sydney today. On a flat track of Sydney, Dhoni's men came with intention to attempt a record for the highest successful run chase in a World Cup knock out match. The Indian team had a good beginning as openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma clicked and were looking strong. When score board read 76, Dhawan pulled one square of the ground and handed his wicket. Then came in the middle, India's star batsman Virat Kohli. But after a prolonged dot balls affair he succumbed to Mitchell Johnson on a short pitched delivery. Conditions became even more tough when Rohit Sharma chipped his bail to Johnson after a while. Things went more down hill as Raina was back in hut at a point when India needed 221 more runs in 27 overs with 6 wickets in hand. Last glimmer of hope was provided by Captain MS Dhoni and Ajinkya Rahane. They made a usefull contribution of 70 runs but didnt acclerate the innings leading to a high run rate required. Some heroic blows in end by Captain cool were not enough to pull this chase down. And India were bowled out at 233. Earlier, a century from Steve Smith ensured Australia posted an imposing 328. Of course Smith was not alone in delivering Kangaroos their seventh win from seven World Cup semi-finals – Aaron Finch gave batting support, Mitchell Johnson provided invaluable late runs and key wickets – but Smith was at the heart of it. Now all eyes will be on Melbourne on Sunday when the co hosts Australia-New Zealand face off each other in the finals.
