The rupee today weakened 21 paise per US dollar. The domestic Unit settled at 74 rupees and 78 paise, against the US currency.   

The dollar index, which indicates the US dollar's strength against a basket of six other leading currencies, rose 0.34 percent to trade at 96.25 in intra-day trade.
