Curfew relaxed in violence hit areas of Muzaffarnagar in UP

The situation in violence hit areas of Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat and Shamli districts is slowly limping back to normal.

Curfew relaxation period in three police station areas of Muzaffarnagar district passed off peacefully. The curfew was relaxed till 6 p.m. and no untoward incident has been reported.

The army and para-military forces continued their intensive patrolling and combing operation in the violence-hit areas of the district.

Additional Director General Law and Order, Arun Kumar said that a total of 5100 persons have been arrested in Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Meerut and Baghpat in connections of violence and abetting the communal passion. He said that most of the arrests have been made as a preventive measure.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has announced ex-gratia of 2 lakh rupees each to the next of kin of those killed in group clashes at Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund.

According to an official release, Dr Singh also sanctioned 50 thousand rupees each to the seriously injured persons in the incident.
