Curfew relaxed in Sualkuchi area of Assam's Kamrup district for 4 hours

In Assam, curfew was relaxed at Sualkuchi area in Kamrup district today for 4 hours from 1 pm to 5 pm during which shops opened and people came out in large numbers to buy essentials.

Curfew was re-imposed at 5 pm as a precautionary measure with security forces maintaining vigil. IGP L R Bishnoi said that no untoward incident has been reported. 5 persons were arrested for their alleged involvement in violence.

Police picked up another 2 persons for violating curfew. District administration has banned selling of imported fabrics in Kamrup district in the name of local Mekhela Chador. Magisterial inquiry has already been ordered into the incident.

Kamrup Deputy Commissioner S K Roy said that curfew will be relaxed for 10 hours on Monday from 7 am to 5pm.
