Curfew reimposed in Kokrajhar after fresh violence

In Assam, curfew was re-imposed in Kokrajhar district today after unidentified miscreants killed 3 people and injured two others at Raanijuli area on Monday. The injured people have been admitted in the Guwahati Medical College Hospital.
State Home Secretary GD Tripathi said curfew had been reimposed as a precautionary measure after angry people resorted to stone pelting and damaged some vehicles. Security forces have intensified search operation to nab the culprits. Curfew was relaxed in Chirang district from noon today. Another body was recovered today at Aamguri area of Chiranag district.

The Group of Ministers headed by the Revenue minister is visiting relief camps in Dhubri district to take stock of the relief and rehabilitation measures. A four-member team of National Human Rights Commission has already reached Kokrajhar to take stock of the relief and rehabilitation measures. The team will visit various relief camps in violence-hit areas for the next two days.

Meanwhile, security personnel has been deployed at 98 fixed security pickets in the violence affected areas to maintain law and order. So far, 1.16 lakh people have returned home from the relief camps resulting in the closure of 95 relief camps.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi asked for a CBI inquiry into the recent incidents of violence in Bodoland territorial area districts and Dhubri district.
