Curfew was today lifted in the Kashmir valley, nearly a week after it was struck by violence. The situation remained generally peaceful but prohibitory orders have been clamped in Baramulla, Anantnag and Pulwama districts besides some parts of Srinagar.<br/><br/>AIR Correspondent reports that the opposition People's Democratic Party is likely to review its decision of not attending Monday's all party meeting called by the State Chief Minister. The party sources said that Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh has telephoned Mehabooba Mufti and asked her to reconsider the decision.<br/><br/><br/>Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah received a shot in the arm today with legislators of the National Conference and the Congress rallying behind him appreciating the steps taken by the government in restoring peace in the valley.<br/><br/>They expressed full faith and confidence in his leadership At a specially called meeting of legislators belonging to ruling coalition in Srinagar, it was decided that Government will put in place an appropriate mechanism to address the grievances and problems of the people in a more vibrant, systematic, regular and time-bound manner. <br/><br/>The three-hour long meeting, the first political initiative taken by the Chief Minister since trouble erupted in valley a month ago, was attended by his father and National Conference President Farooq Abdullah as well as Congress state chief Saif-ud-din Soz. During the meeting, Omar appealed to the MLAs for initiating a mass contact programme with people of their respective constituencies. He said the present protests was not a reflection on the governance of the state administration. <br/><br/>The meeting expressed deep sorrow over the unfortunate happenings in the recent past in the state and sincere anguish and grief over the loss of life and property in these incidents. They made an appeal to all right thinking people irrespective of their political affiliations and ideologies to come forward at this crucial juncture and extend their active and positive support, and full cooperation in restoring peace and tranquility in the state.
