Curfew in Ludhiana after clash between groups turns violent

In Punjab, curfew has been imposed in Ludhiana following a clash between two groups. One person was killed when police resorted to firing to control the mob on Saturday.<br/><br/>The trouble started when some Sikh organisations protested against a religious sect which was holding Satsang in Ludhiana. Police faced tough time to control the fury of the members who were on rampage with open swords. They reportedly damaged some vehicles. Some members of the organizations blocked vehicular traffic in Jalandhar also for some time. <br/><br/>Speaking to AIR Correspondent the ADGP (Law & Order), Punjab, Mr. J.P. Virdi has said situation is under control now. Special alert has been sounded in Punjab.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, the Punjab Chief Minister, Mr. Parkash Singh Badal has described the incidents in Ludhiana on Saturday as most unfortunate and painful and has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of a life in firing in the city. He called upon the people of the state to maintain the highest traditions of peace as taught by the great Gurus, Saints and Seers.<br/><br/>He has also appealed to all religious and social organizations and political parties in the state to play a constructive and pro-active role in maintenance of peace and amity among the people.<br/>
