Curfew in four distt. of J&K

Curfew was today imposed in four districts of Kashmir Valley as authorities apprehended breach of peace in the wake of the arrest of hardline Hurriyat leader Masrat Alam. A police spokesman said curfew has been imposed in Srinagar city, Ganderbal district town and Kangan town. However, curfew was relaxed in Kupwara from 10.00 AM onwards while in Handwara the restrictions have been eased from 10.00 AM to 2.00 PM.The 24-hour stand off between an injured Lashkar-e-Toiba militant holed up inside a mosque and security forces in Bandipora district ended this morning with the killing of the ultra. The militant Abu Dawood was injured in the encounter with security forces in Barzulla village yesterday and died inside the mosque early this morning. Official sources said, the ultra had taken refuge in the mosque while fleeing the security forces and had died due to injuries sustained during the encounter. Army had sent local elders and Imam of the mosque to persuade the militant to leave the religious place and surrender before the security forces. However, he refused the offer and hurled grenades and opened fire on the security forces. One militant was killed in the initial firefight between the two sides yesterday.
