Curfew imposed in violence hit areas in Saharanpur in UP; 2 killed, 18 injured in group clashes

In Uttar Pradesh, the death toll in violent group clashes in Saharanpur today has risen to two with the death of one injured. Curfew has already been imposed in all six urban police stations of the district. Heavy police and RAF force is pressed in service to control the situation. Additional forces have been send to the trouble hit district.

Earlier in the day one person was killed and more than 18 persons including two police men were injured in group clash. About fifty shops and one dozen vehicles were torched. More fire tenders from other districts were sought to douse the fire.

The situation in curfew bound area of Saharanpur continues to be tense. Chief secretary Alok Ranjan instructed the district administration to control the situation immediately.

The trouble started on a pity issue when one group started extending the building of Gurudwara and minority group made objection under Quautub police station circle today. Had the district administration taken timely step, the situation would not have been so serious.
