In Assam, the district authority of Cachar has enforced a nine-hour night curfew along the district’s 32-km-long border with Bangladesh since last night in an attempt to curb infiltration and smuggling across the border.

The order to this effect was issued under the provisions of Section 144 CrPC. It bans any movement either on foot or by vehicle within a one-km radius of the border between 8pm and 5am till further orders. The night curfew was imposed after it was reported that Bangladeshis cross the border under the guise of fishermen. Besides, extremists also use this corridor to cross over.
