The situation in Dhanbad is under control and curfew continues to be imposed on the city after Wednesday's incident. Four people were killed and more than 23, including two senior police officers, were injured in clashes as protests against the demolition drive turned violent at three different places in Dhanbad. Two of the deceased have been identified as Vikash Singh and Dinesh Handi. The trouble began at Matkuria locality of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) in Dhanbad. Around 1,100 people illegally living on the BCCL land had been served notice in the past to vacate the place. When police arrived on Wednesday, thousands of people gathered to protest the demolitions. The scene turned violent as the protesters started pelting stones at the policemen. In Ranchi, Chief Minister Arjun Munda held a high level meeting attended by State DGP G.S. Rath before ordering an inquiry in the incident.
