Curfew continues in parts of Sonitpur, Nagaon and Barpeta districts of Assam; No untoward incident reported in the last 12 hours

Security has been tightened in parts of Lower Assam after one person killed and around 30 injured in violence during the 12 hour bandh called by All Assam Minority Student Union. Indefinite curfew continued at Tezpur in Sontipur district, Barpeta and Howly in Barpeta district and also at Ambagan under Nagaon district. State Law and Order IGP said, situation is tense but under control. No untoward incident has been reported during last 12 hours. Police also arrested 36 miscreants for indulging in violence activities on Tuesday. Army staged flag march at Barpeta Road. No untoward incident has been reported in Bodoland Territorial Area Districts also. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi urged political parties and other organisations to refrain from calling bandhs. Mr Gogoi reiterated that all the culprits involved in recent violence will be punished. The Chief Minister also said that instruction has been given to seize all illegal arms. As many as seven Cabinet ministers and two Parliamentary Secretaries were camping in and touring Kokrajhar, Chirang, Bongaingaon, Dhubri and Barpeta to closely monitor law and order situation. An all party delegation is also visiting violence hit areas as part of confidence building measure.
