Curfew continues in main towns of Kashmir, situation tense

In Kashmir valley, curfew continued in Srinagar and 12 other towns for the second consecutive day today and the situation remained tense. Yesterday, two people died in firing by security forces at Baramullah and Naid Khai in north Kashmir. 50 people also injured in the clashes across the valley. A police camp, Railway Station and two Indian Air Force vehicles were torched by the protestors. Our correspondent reports that worried over the spread of protest to new areas, State Government has constituted Ministerial teams for sensitive districts to help in normalising the situation. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has warned that anti-social elements damaging public property will be dealt with firmly. He said none will be allowed to vitiate the atmosphere and threaten the common man.Chairing a high-level meeting in Srinagar yesterday, he also announced formation of three ministerial teams for Baramulla, Anantnag and Pulwama districts to work with the citizen groups for speedy restoration of peace in those areas. Appealing to all sections of the society to extend wholehearted cooperation in restoration of peace and normalcy in the Valley, the Chief Minister reiterated the commitment of his government to restore law and order and normalcy and fight the forces of disruption. Omar Abdullah said, all measures will be taken to safeguard life and property of citizens.The teams for Baramulla, Anantnag and Pulwama will remain stationed at the district headquarters. They will monitor the day-to-day situation personally and initiate measures for return of peace. It was also decided at the meeting that security forces should be advised to exercise maximum restraint and those taking law into their hands dealt with sternly.
