In Uttar Pradesh, curfew has been completely lifted from all four curfew hit areas of Baradari, Prem Nagar, Qila and Kotwali police stations in Bareilly district. AIR Allahabad correspondent reports that in view of peace prevailing in the town during relaxation of curfew the district administration has announced the decision to lift the curfew. Day curfew was lifted a week earlier on August 19 and relaxation hours were extended gradually. About 350 persons have been arrested for their alleged involvement in violence and for violation of curfew restrictions and most of them have been put in different district jails. The administration has also externed 6 persons for their criminal activities during the curfew. No fresh incident of violence was reported from any part of the town during the last 10 days. The administration has said that security forces deployed in the Bareilly town to maintain peace will continue and will be withdrawn in a phased manner. Curfew was clamped on August 11 after clashes between two rival groups over a Janmashtami procession leading to heavy brick batting and firing. BJP leaders Kalraj Mishra and Ashok Pradhan were arrested at Moradabad yesterday. The BJP leaders wanted to go to Bareilly to get a first-hand account of the situation and to meet the people.
