In Punjab, the curfew clamped in Bhikhi town of Mansa district on Sunday evening to avert a clash between two religious factions, is continuing till further orders. Police had to use water-cannons and tear gas to disperse the activists. The followers of a religious faction allegedly resorted to brick-batting when their public address system was stopped by the police so that their religious leader should not use any insulting remarks against the head of a religious sect. In the said brick-batting, a number of cops including a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) got injured. The followers had reportedly damaged some vehicles also. Senior Superintendent of Police, Mansa, Hardyal Singh Maan while confirming this to AIR Jalandhar correspondent said that the district administration had to clamp curfew in Bhikhi to maintain law and order. However, he said, the situation now is under control.
