Culling operation of birds begin for 6th day today in Assam

In Assam, the culling operation of birds in Dhubri district is being carried out for the sixth consecutive day on Thursday. AIR correspndent reports, Rapid Response Teams have been engaged in culling operation at 14 villages in the Agomoni area. The culling is likely to continue for another one or two days. A few districts nearby Agomoni are also adopting precautionary measures to prevent the spread of bird flu influenza.The Barpeta district administration has imposed ban on import of poultry products from West Bengal in the district. The district veterinary department collected blood samples of 100 birds from Katajhar and Sariyha Chakla where bird flu cases were reported in 2008.Also, SMS drive has been launched to create awareness among poultry farmers.Earlier, Bongaigaon and Goalpara district also took precautionary measures. State Health Commissioner Mr.Pratik Hajela said that apart from Dhubri, there has been no report of bird flu from other districts.
