In Assam, culling of birds in Dhubri district of Lower Assam has been intensified on Tuesday. The Deputy Commissioner of Dhubri today said that the culling operation has been going on at 14 villages at Agomoni area of the district for consecutive fourth day. The administration has banned the sell of poultry and its products within the three kilometers radius of the area under section 144 of CrPC.So far,the administration has set the target of culling 30 thousand birds. No reports of spread of avian flu virus to other places have been received so far as the health department geared up Information,Education and Communication (IEC) activities.The state Health department has instructed the Interated Disease Survillance Programme (IDSP) officer of Dhubri and neighbouring districts to gear up the monitoring activities to prevent the spread of bird flu. State NRHM Mission Director said that instruction has been given to Dhubri IDSP office along with health departments to involve ASHA and other health workers in awareness drive. The neighbourning Bongaigaon district administration has also taken all preventive measures to check the spread of bird flu influenza. The Deputy Commissioner of Bongaigaon said that Rapid Action teams are instructed to remain alert with medicines in the district.
