The culling of hens and ducks supposedly infected with virus commonly knows as bird flu is continuing in the Tehatto subdivision of Nadiya district of West Bengal. Speaking to our Nadiya correspondent, the subdivisional officer Mr. Achinta Mandal said that till now 38 thousand birds have been culled. The work for compensating farmer and poultry owners has already begun.About 51 thousand birds in 5 villages of Tehatto subdivision are to be culled. It may be mention that the West Bengal government has been advised to give daily reports of culling and preventive measures taken to central animal husbandry, dairy and fisheries department. The central government has advised the state government to prevent the sale and purchase of eggs and meat of ducks and hens within a 10 kilometer radius of the affected area. It is also been advised that all poultry work should be suspended immediately.
