Revolutionary icon, former Cuban president and leader of the Communist revolution, Fidel Castro has died at the age of 90. <br/><br/>President Raul Castro announced on national television that Castro breathed his last at 10:29 pm last evening. <br/><br/>Fidel Castro ruled Cuba as a one-party state for almost half a century before handing over the powers to his brother Raul in 2008.<br/><br/>His supporters praised him as a man who had given Cuba back to the people.<br/><br/>Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi has extended condolences to the Cuban government and people of the country on the demise of Fidel Castro. <br/><br/>In a series of tweets, Mr Modi said Fidel Castro was one of the most iconic personalities of the 20th century.<br/><br/>He said, India stands in support with the Cuban Government and people in this tragic hour.<br/><br/>Congress President Sonia Gandhi has also condoled the passing away of Fidel Castro. <br/><br/>Describing his death as a loss not limited to Cuba or a particular ideology, Mrs Gandhi said that Mr Castro led the oppressed and the striving from the front and stood up to every attempt at stifling the voice of freedom. <br/><br/>She said his contribution to the Non Aligned Movement and his unflinching support for India's cause on various fora will remain etched in the minds of Indian people.
