CSK win by 5 wickets, break string of 4 successive defeats

Chennai Super Kings, riding on a sparkling knock of 78 from opener M Vijay trounced Royal Challengers Bangalore by five wickets off 19 overs and broke their jinx of four successive defeats, at the M A Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday. Chennai Super Kings scored 166 in just 19 overs against the target of 161 set by the Royal Challengers Bangalore.Earlier, batting first on winning the toss, the Royal Challengers made 161 for 4 in 20 overs but failed to defend the score. The Super Kings have now three wins in eight matches to take their points tally to six. The Challengers, who suffered their third loss in seven mataches, have four wins. Their point tally is eight.The adrenalin started flowing again for the Super Kings, as it appeared, the opener, local lad M Vijay with his senior partner Mathew Hayden watching with admiration, took the Royal Challengers pacemen Praveen Kumar and Dale Stein head on. The Super Kings coasted to 38 in the first three overs, Vijay taking 24 runs off Praveen in the third over unleashing some fine strokes as the home fans cheered wildly for him. The first two overs yielded 14 runs.After 10 overs, the halfway mark, Royal Challengers were 80 for 2, Kallis batting on 36. After 12 overs the Kings were still desperate for another breakthrough. Kallis ultimtely posted his 50 with seven fours in the 14th over after his team was 104 for 2 in 13 overs. Kallis was on 49 at this juncture.However, after coasting to 117 for 2 at the end of the 15th over, the Challengers suffered a set back losing Virat Koli who skied Jakati to Vijay at long on. He scored 34 off 24 balls with three fours and a six. The Super Kings were cock a hoop as they struck another blow to the Challengers as they got the prize wicket of Kallis as he failed to regain ground responding to a call by new batsman Kevin Pietersen of Englnad who joined the team for this match along with Cameron White. The Challengers were in a spot of trouble in the slog overs reduced to 124-4, after 17 overs. Pieteson and White turned on the heat on the super Kings hitting two sixes and a four in the 19th over off the lankan pacer Thushara. They posted the 150 of the Bangalore innings.Albie Morkel came on for the the final 20th over and three balls yielded three runs. They added two more in the fourth ball. Pietersen struck a four and a brace off the last two balls of the final over.For the Super Kings even as the top wicket taker in IPL this year offie Muthiah Muralitharan went wicketless for 21 runs in his quota of 4 overs, S Jakati picked up two for 17 and Thilanth Thushara one for 13.
