Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has launched the country's first anti-diabetic ayurvedic drug for Diabetes. Launching the drug at a function in Kozhikode yesterday, CSIR's Senior Principal Scientist Dr A K S Rawat said while modern diabetes drugs are known for side-effects and toxicity, ayurvedic drug BGR-34 works by controlling blood sugar and limiting the harmful effects of other drugs. <br/><br/>Our correspondent reports that BGR-34, which is designed for type 2 Diabetes mellitus, has been scientifically validated for its efficacy and safety. <br/>The drug launching was as part of the Global Ayurveda Meet in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the vision conclave yesterday. <br/><br/>CSIR in collaboration with National Botanical Research Institute and Central Institute for Medicinal and Aromatic Plants successfully developed the drug as diabetes has become a major theat in the health sector. Dr A K S Rawat said that 6 crore of adult Indian population has been found to be diabetic and there is no effective solution for the disease yet. <br/><br/>Pre-clinical studies of the anti-diabetic formulation revealed significant reduction in high blood sugar level in diabetic patients and no side effect has been reported. The modern diabetes drugs are known for side-effects and toxicity, said the scientists.
