CRPF to create 10 new commando battalions to counter naxals

The Central Reserve Police Force will create 10 new commando battalions with a view to counter naxals in the naxal infested areas. Briefing reporters in New Delhi ton Tuesday, the Director General of CRPF Mr. A.S Gill said that out of them six battalions will be functional in the next month while the other 4 will be raised in 2010. He said that a special intelligence unit will also be created in each battalion of this force for gathering more information about naxal movements. CRPF has a sanctioned strength of 210 battalions. In reply to a question, Mr. Gill said that infiltration has come down in the border areas of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that force is fully ready to handle left – wing extremism effectively in the country. Highlighting the operational achievements of the force, Mr. Gill said that 179 militants and extremists were killed in various encounters. He said that theatre specific training has been introduced for the first time to enhance specific capabilities in fighting the problems of militancy and insurgency.<br/><br/> <br/><br/>
