With less than four weeks remaining for the Sri Lankan Presidential election to be held, crossovers from one side to the other has become the order of the day. The latest to join the bandwagon is the Deputy Minister Satchithanantan in the present government. He along with the National Organiser of the Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) R. Yogarajan have decided to support the common Presidential candidate of the major opposition parties Retd Gen. Sarath Fonseka. CWC is a party representing the Tamil population in the up-country area.

With this crossover, the CWC is divided in their allegiance with Minister Thondaman of the same party throwing his weight behind the incumbent President Mahinda Rajapaksa. In another development, Military Spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said that as the security situation in the country has improved the Ministry of Defence has taken a decision to lift the curfew in the Jaffna peninsula from 12.00 midnight to 4.00am from Thursday midnight . Earlier, the Sri Lankan Government had thrown open the A 9 route to Jaffna for the general use of the public earlier this month. He also stated the government has taken steps to ensure that the pension of all retired personnel of the three services would be increased from 65% to 85% which would be in effect from 2010 January onwards.
