After remaining suspended for over three weeks, the cross LoC trade in Jammu region, resumed today. Nine trucks each from PoK and Jammu crossed over at Chakan-Da-Bagh-Rawalakote crossing point. The Cross LoC trade was suspended by the PoK trade authorities on January 17 after Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested a truck driver from PoK for allegedly carrying 114 packets of brown sugar, worth 100 crore rupees in the international market. That led to a stand-off as PoK authorities detained 27 Indian trucks and refused to take back their remaining 48 trucks from India. The matter was resolved after more than three weeks with the Pakistani side releasing the Indian trucks and taking back their vehicles without insisting on the return of the arrested Pakistani driver. However, LoC trade in Kashmir failed to resume today as no goods trucks arrived at the crossing point from Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir at Kaman post at Uri in North Kashmir.Nine trucks carrying items including Bananas, Fenugreek and Tamarind worth 20 lakhs, crossed over from Chakan Da Bagh whileas nine trucks crossed over into Poonch area of Jammu. Even though losing crores during the deadlock period, the traders have expressed their happiness over the resumption of trade between the two sides. Besides demanding the Whole Body Truck Scanners at the crossing point for hassle free crossing over of goods, traders have also demanded that bi-monthly meetings of the traders from both sides should be made part of this over six year old CBM between India and Pakistan which has started in 2008.
