Crop insurance claims settlement has crossed over 15,000 crore rupees as on 24th of June benefitting over 4 crore farmers in the country. With 3041 crore rupees, Gujarat is on the top followed by Andhra Pradesh Maharashtra, Karnataka and Bihar. <br/><br/>According to official release, 4.27 crore farmers have benefitted from the crop insurance under National Agriculture Insurance Scheme (NAIS). 950 crore rupees have also been allocated for the scheme in the current fiscal. <br/><br/>The scheme, launched in 1999-2000 Rabi season, aims at providing insurance coverage and financial support to the farmers in the event of failure of any of the notified crops due to natural calamities, pests and diseases.
