Mr. Ryan Crocker has assumed the charge of the new U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan. A member of United States Foreign Service in the U.S. Embassy in Kabul administered him oath of office on Friday. After assuming charge Mr. Crocker said the United States has no interest in creating permanent military bases in Afghanistan and it does not want to use the country as a platform to influence neighbouring countries. He said the United States has no hidden agenda. We will stay as long as we need to and not one day more. Mr. Crocker is one of the senior most members of US Foreign Service. He has also served as U.S. ambassador to Pakistan, Iraq, Syria, Kuwait and Lebanon.In 2001 Mr. Crocker reopened the U.S. embassy in Kabul after the Talibans were ousted by U.S.-backed Afghan forces from Afghanistan. Mr. Crocker replaces Mr. Karl W. Eikenberry, who has returned to the US after completion of his tenure in Afghanistan. Earlier the new US Ambassador to Afghanistan presented his credentials to the Afghan President Hamid Karzai in a function held at the Presidential palace in Kabul on Friday.
