Criminal violence causes more deaths in India: UN report

Criminal violence causes more deaths in India as compared to militancy, says a UN report. The report released in New Delhi on Thursday stated that more than eight thousand people lost their lives as a result of criminal violence as against two thousand two hundred deaths due to militancy in 2009-10.

The report also noted that there is a wide variation in the reporting and recording of crime by the State police across the country.

The report also suggested that all forms of armed violence require greater attention and a holistic policy. The report is based on a wide study dealing with issues related to cross border terrorism, militant separatism, law and order problems, domestic violence and other social conflicts.
