In the ICC Cricket World Cup today, Sri Lanka defeated Zimbabwe by 139 runs in a Group 'A' match at Kandy. With Seven points from five matches, Sri Lanka qualified for the quarter-finals. Faced with the uphill task of making 328 runs for a win, Zimbabwe were all out for 188 in 39 overs. Earlier, put in to bat, a record opening partnership between Tilaklara Dilshan and Upul Tharanga guided co-hosts Sri Lanka to a mammoth 327 for six in their 50 overs. Both the openers recorded centuries. While Dilshan made 144, Tharanga was out for 133.The 268-ball partnership between Dilshan and Tharanga is the second highest in the history of World Cup.Dilshan, who also picked up four wickets was declared Man of the Match. Zimbabwe have only two points so far, after playing four games. Two matches are scheduled for tomorrow in the ICC Cricket World Cup. In the Day Encounter at Mohali, Chandigarh, Ireland will face the West Indies in a Group 'B' fixture.All India Radio will broadcast live commentary on the match. The commentary can be heard on Rajdhani Channel and FM Gold from 9 A.M. onwards.In another Group 'B' match at Chittagong, co-hosts Bangladesh will be playing against England. It will be a Day-Night encounter.
