US President Barack Obama in his first State of the Union address has said that creating jobs must be the nation's number one focus.Mr Obama accepted Americans were hurting and that his election pledge of change had not come quickly enough. He defended his bank bailout policy, saying it had saved many jobs, but said there would be a freeze on spending from 2011 to tackle the budget deficit. He also said he stood by his attempts to bring about healthcare reform. The president also talked about global warming, urging the Senate to advance work on climate change, while acknowledging deep disagreement on a bill to cap carbon emissions.Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell gave the Republican response to Mr Obama's address, criticising the growth of federal government and saying it was simply trying to do too much.
