India won three bronze medals today in the 16th Asian Games at Guangzhou, China. Virdhawal Khade scripted history as he became the first Indian swimmer in 24 years to clinch an Asian Games medal by notching up a bronze. The 19-year-old Khade finished third in the 50 metres butterfly finals with a timing of 24.31 seconds. The second bronze was bagged by Ashish Kumar in the men's Floor Event of the Artistic Gymnastics. He also scripted history when he became the first Indian gymnast to clinch an Asian Games medal by securing a bronze in the Men's Floor event of the Artistic Gymnastics today. Kumar clinched the medal with an aggregate of 14.92, behind gold medallists Chenglong Zhang of China and South Korean Soo Myun Kim, who finished at an identical scoreline of 15.40. The third Bronze for India was clinched by Harika Dronavalli in women's individual chess event. Pugilist Suranjoy Singh also provided some spark to punch his way into pre-quarter finals while the shooters came a cropper for the second successive day.With the addition of three bronze medals to their kitty, India's medals tally has risen to one gold, four silver and SIX bronze. They now stand ninth in the medals tally.The West Bengal government has decided to give compensation of one lakh rupees each to the next of kin of those killed in yesterday's building collapse in Delhi. Giving this information in Kolkata today, the State Labour Minister, Mr. Anadi Sahu said, 24 construction workers of West Bengal died in the mishap. Mr. Sahu said that the compensation will be given from construction workers' welfare fund. Besides the State government will bear the treatment cost amounting maximum 30,000 rupees of the injured workers. He said that most of the victims of the State resides at Murshidabad and Malda districts of West Bengal.
