In West Bengal, some journalists were assaulted in Perakata area of West Midnapur District allegedly by CPIM workers. However CPIM has denied any involvement in the incidents. The Trinamul Congress Chief Ms. Mamata Banerjee while condemning the act said that it is a directed attack on democracy. The leader of the Congress legislative party in the West Bengal Assembly Dr. Manas Bhuiya said that the attack on the fourth estate was a proof that they do not have any faith in democracy.
