CPIM wants FDI discussion under rule that entails voting

The CPIM today reiterated its stand that there should be a discussion on Foreign Direct Investment in Parliament under the rule that entails voting. Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, Polit Buro member Sitaram Yechury said there is no point in holding the discussion without the provision of voting. He alleged that the government is opposed to any discussion on the issue on the ground that executive decisions are never put to vote in Parliament.

He said the Congress cannot deny Parliament its right to discuss and vote upon an important issue which affects the livelihood of at least one fifth of the country's population.

Mr Yechury said the Parliamentary Affairs Minister has convened an all-party meeting on Monday in this regard.
