The government today said that there are inputs to suggest that the Left wing extremist groups particularly the CPI Maoists extort considerable money from various illegal mining mafia groups in the naxal-affected States. In a written reply in Lok Sabha to a question on nexus between naxals and mining mafia, the Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Maken however said that the exact amount taken by them from illegal mining mafia groups is not available. In reply to another question, Ajay Maken said that CPI Maoists have recruited a large number of Jan Militia cadres in the affected states. He said however that there are no inputs to indicate the formation of suicides squads by CPI Maoists.
