CPI-M to move adjournment motion in LS on price rise issue

The CPIM will move an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha on the

price rise issue tomorrow. Talking to reporters in New Delhi today, senior party leader Sitaram Yechury said, this will be the first adjournment motion against the two and half year old UPA government, forcing it to come out with measures to contain the rising inflation.

Mr. Yechury said the price rise issue must be taken up for discussion in the Rajya Sabha under Rule 168 providing for voting.

He reiterated his party's stand for roll back of petroleum prices, ban on forward trading in speculative commodities and universalization of Public Distribution System.

His party colleague, Mr. Basudev Acharia said the CPIM will also demand a thorough discussion on the economic situation in the country.

Mr. Yechury expressed concern over the delay on the reconstitution of the Parliamentary Committee on Sub-ordinate Legislation to study the notification issued by the government on changing the clause on the nuclear liability issue. He alleged that this is a serious manipulation of the Parliamentary procedure.

Replying to a question on BJP opposing Home Minister P Chidambaram, Mr. Yechury said that his party does not target any individual. However, he said that whoever is involved in the 2G spectrum issue must be probed.
