In Kerala, CPIM led opposition walked out of the state assembly protesting against alleged freight hike by Indian Railways.Seeking permission for an adjournment motion, former Minister Elamaram Karim said that six per cent hike in freight by railways has caused heavy burden on a consumer state like Kerala.Countering opposition allegation Chief Minister Oommen Chandy clarified that railways did not increase freight rate during the last one year.He added that since FCI is providing food grains to Kerala on fixed price, hike in surcharge and development charge by railways will not affect food grain prices in the state. Not satisfied with the reply of the Chief Minister the entire opposition walked out in protest.
