All the 60 assembly results are available from Tripura. The Left Front has swept the polls getting 50 seats. The Congress won the remaining 10 seats. It had the same number of MLAs in the outgoing assembly. The BJP which contested 46 seats drew blank.
The Congress is way ahead of others in Meghalaya winning 29 seats of the 56 results declared so far in the 60 member assembly. It is also in the lead in one segment. The United Democratic Party which had an alliance with Congress in the outgoing assembly has won eight seats and Independants and others eleven. The NCP has bagged two seat and NPP in one. The Hill State Peoples Democratic Party has secured three constituencies.
In Nagaland, of the 50 results declared so far, 34 seats have gone in favour of the ruling Naga Peoples Front while the Congress has won five seats and the NCP four. BJP and JDU have bagged one seat each. Five constituencies went to other parties while one Independent candidate has been elected.
In Tripura, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has registered convincing victory from Dhanpur constituency by a margin of over six thousand votes. State Assembly Speaker Ramendra Chandra Debnath defeated his nearest Congress rival by over 2 thousand 800 votes at Yuvrajnagar constituency. Senior Left front leaders and sitting ministers including Anil Sarkar, Badal Choudhury, Manindra Reyang, Aghore Deb Barman have also been re-elected from their constituencies. But Science and Technology minister and RSP candidate Jay Govinda Deb Ray lost in Radha Kishorpur constituency to Congress candidate Pranjit Singha Ray. Three Congress sitting MLA and Indigenous National Party of Twipra, INPT President Vijay Kumar Ranghkal, which is an ally of Congress failed to get re-elected. Five women candidates of CPI-M have won the election.
In Meghalaya, Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma retained his seat from Ampati securing a huge margin against the other two candidates in the triangular contest. Dr. Sangma’s wife Dikanchi D Shira and younger brother Zenith Sangma were victorious in their respective assembly seats. Former Chief Minister and MPCC President Dr. DD Lapang stood his ground in Nongpoh defeating the four other candidates. Deputy Chief Minister and UDP working president Bindo M Lanong defeated by Urban Affairs Minister and Congress candidate Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh who secured a margin of over 5084 votes. Deputy Speaker and NCP candidate Sanbor Shullai defeated INC candidate Manas Chaudhuri securing a margin of over 1145 votes. Speaker Charles Pyngrope’s son David A Nongrum who contested the elections as an independent candidate defeated. Former chief minister and INC candidate Salseng C Marak made a comeback defeating former deputy chief minister Timothy D Shira from the NCP.
In Nagaland, in Dimapur-I constituency, the former Nagaland Chief Minister K.L. Chishi of Congress was defeated by NPF candidate Tovihoto Ayemi by a margin of over 1800 votes. In Northern Angami-II State Chief Minister and NPF leader Mr. Neiphiu Rio has been elected by defeating his rival Congress candidate Kevise Sogotsu over a margin of twelve thousand votes. Counting of votes in the state was taken up for 59 constituencies as polling in one constituency was countermanded due to death of a candidate.
