CPI (M) Politburo member and MP, Md. Salim today again indicated that the people want the party to form an electoral alliance prior to the 2016 Assembly elections in West Bengal. Speaking to media-persons in Kolkata on the third day of the CPI (M) plenum, Mr. Salim cautiously avoided referring to the Congress by name for the alliance. He said that differences in this regard prevailing in the Left Front partners would be taken up in the coming days, right after the plenum.

The State Committee of the party will let their opinion known to the central leadership and then an appropriate decision will be made, Mr. Salim added. Answering a query about the reported strong demand made by some members at yesterday's deliberations on inducting youth leadership in the party, Mr. Salim said, the issue was important and the party has to induct more young people at various levels in the organisation. But, in the emerging detractions, attracting the young minds to the party-organisation and retaining them is also a challenge, he said.

Meanwhile, discussions on the Draft Report on Organisation and the Draft Resolution on Organisation continued for the third day today. During the last two days a total of 29 delegates spoke. A separate resolution to "Observe the Centenary Year of the Great October Socialist Revolution" was also moved in the morning session at the plenum today. The draft of the resolution was moved by M.A. Baby and was seconded by R. Arun Kumar.
