In Assam, a veteran Communist Party of India leader and former Minister Pramode Gogoi breathed his last at a private hospital at Guwahati today. He was 82. Late Gogoi was admitted to the hospital five days back following high blood pressure and mild stroke. Gogoi was a National Executive member of CPI, besides the President of AITUC. He was elected to the Assam Assembly five times from Sibsagar Constituency. From 1996 to 2001, late Gogoi was a Cabinet Minister of State for Water Resources.Assam State Council of CPI has expressed deep shock and sorrow at the demise of the veteran party leader. According to a party spokesman, the CPI’s red flag in the state headquarter and all district offices would remain half-mast for a week in honour of the deceased leader. State Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has condoled the death of Mr. Gogoi. In a message, the Chief Minister said, late Pramode Gogoi worked for the down-trodden sections of the society.
