The CPI says, it is adopting a wait and watch policy on the Presidential candidates being discussed now. Party leader A.B.Bardhan said, the left parties will meet on 21st of this month to discuss the issue. Responding to a query, Bardhan said, Mahatma Gandhi was in favour of a woman candidate belonging to the Scheduled Castes an apparent reference to Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar.

The CPI leader added that NCP chief Sharad Pawar, Odisha Chief minister Navin Patnaik,his Tamil Nadu counterpart J Jayalalitha and Telegu Desam party chief Chandrababu Naidu have spoken to him over the issue.
