Cox's Bazar, a tourist destination of Bangladesh gets railway connectivity

Cox's Bazar, a popular tourist destination of Bangladesh, got its railway connectivity. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday inaugurated the much-awaited 102-kilometre Chattogram-Cox's Bazar dual-gauge single railway line at a ceremony at newly constructed Cox's Bazar Railway Station. <br />'' <br />''Addressing the inauguration programme, Hasina said  that today Cox's Bazar has been linked to the railway network. This was a longstanding demand of this region. <br />'' She said the new rail line will ensure fast and smooth train services from Chattogram to the tourist town Cox's Bazar. In the future, the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar railway line will be connected with the under-construction Matarbari deep sea port.<br />'' <br />''As part of the Trans-Asian Railway (TAR) network, this is also expected to improve access to Myanmar and beyond.<br />'' <br />''On November 01, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina jointly inaugurated three India assisted development projects in Bangladesh. Of them, two were the railway line projects: the 12.24 km Akhaura-Agartala cross-border rail line and the Khulna-Mongla Port Rail Line. With completion of these developmental projects in the railway sector of Bangladesh, connectivity in this sub-region has been enhanced.<br />'' <br />''An eye-catching Cox's Bazar railway station built in the shape of an oyster stands just three kilometers away from Cox's Bazar sea beach, which is expected to become also a recreation destination.
