Court to hear Kasab’s death confirmation in October

The Bombay High Court today said that the hearing on the confirmation of death sentence awarded to Ajmal Kasab in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks case would begin from October 11 or 18. Earlier today, Kasab’s lawyer Farhana Shah and Amin Solkar failed to file an appeal on Kasab’s behalf but the division headed by Justice Ranjana Desai told Kasab’s lawyer Farhana Shah that they would not wait any longer. Meanwhile, Public Prosecutor, Ujjwal Nikam today told the court that bringing Kasab to court would be a great risk and requested that Kasab should appear in the court through video conferencing. He added that the state would be ready with the video conferencing facility by October 11. The court instructed Kasab’s lawyer to meet their client as soon as possible and find out whether Kasab wished to attend the hearing in the court or not. If Kasab wishes to appear in person, the court will then seek Maharashtra Government’s advice on the security measures and accordingly pass an order to fix a date for day-to-day hearing of the case.
