Court rejects bail plea of truck driver who hit Mamata's convoy

A local court of Tamluk in East Midnapore district of West Bengal on Monday rejected the bail plea of truck driver Gurjant Singh whose vehicle hit Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee’s convoy while she was returning to Kolkata from a rally in Lalgarh on August 9. Chief Judicial Magistrate Mohit Banerjee rejected the bail plea of Gurjant and sent him to police custody for three more days. He would be produced in the court on August 26. The CJM said bail was rejected owing to the failure of the police to submit the case diary, Miss Banerjee’s and a police constable’s injury reports, as well as the truck’s mechanical reports after the accident. He said Gurjant was booked under section 307 of IPS and could not be granted bail in absence of these documents. He ordered the police to submit these documents on August 26.
