An Ahmedabad Magisterial Court today directed the Supreme Court appointed Special Investigation Team, SIT, to provide its final report to complainant Zakia Jafri within 30 days. Zakia is the wife of Ex-Parliamentarian and Congress leader Ehsan Jafri who was burnt to death in 2002 in his own home by a violent mob during the 2002 Gulburg society carnage. Metropolitan Magistrate MS Bhatt, in his order mentioned that the SIT had filed a closure report against the accused, including Chief Minister Narendra Modi and 62 others for their alleged role in the 2002 riots. The Court, after perusing the voluminous SIT report, observed that there was “no evidence” to establish the offences alleged by Zakia Jafri against the accused. Zakia had sought a copy of the report and had urged the court to reveal the content of the report, which was submitted by SIT in a sealed cover in February.AIR Correspondent reports that Zakia Jafri had sought investigation into a larger conspiracy behind the riots alleging complicity of state government in 2002 communal violence in which more than 1,000 people were killed.
