Country's non-fossil fuel-based generation capacity share likely to increase to 64% by 2029-30: Govt informs LS

The Centre has said, Country's non-fossil fuel-based generation capacity share is likely to increase from the existing 42 to 64 percent by 2029-30. Power and New & Renewable Energy Minister RK Singh informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply that this was revealed in the Generation Expansion Planning Studies carried out by the Central Electricity Authority. The Minister said, Energy Conservation Amendment Bill has provisions for establishing a carbon market in the country. As per the COP framework, if any carbon credit is sold outside the country, it cannot be used for meeting the NDCs of the originating country. Mr Singh said, Carbon credit will be used on priority within the country to meet the country's NDCs. However, he said that in specific cases these credits are created by high technology expensive assets, and may be permitted to be externally marketed by the National Designated Authority created by the Government.
