President Pranab Mukherjee has said, country's economy is performing reasonably well despite international slowdown. <br/><br/>Addressing Diamond jubilee celebrations of Export Credit Guarantee Corporation, ECGC in New Delhi today, Mr Mukherjee said, weak global demand has impacted exports adversely. <br/><br/>He said, reviving exports will remain a serious challenge in the current international scenario. He said, role of export credit agency is of central importance and the institution is akin to policy instrument which ensures timely support by way of extending credit. The President said, putting country back on high export growth path should be the focus.<br/><br/>Mr Mukherjee said, the developed world is facing major crisis from different sources and cited the financial crisis of 2008, Eurozone crisis, Brexit and influx of refugees. He also emphasized the importance of Asian region, which contributes one third of global manufacture trade. <br/><br/>The President said, there has been a sea change in recent years where dominion of European and North American countries over polity and economy have ended. He said, Asian powers have emerged and world trade and growth substantially depend on contribution of emerging economies, particularly China and India. <br/><br/>Speaking on the occasion, Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said ECGC's role in hand holding exporters is critical as exports have seen a continuous decline in past months. She said, Small and Medium Enterprises contribute to major chunk of exports who receive credit from ECGC. The Minister also stressed the need to look for newer markets for exports.
