Country suffered huge losses due to delay in bringing GST bills : Anand Sharma

Anand Sharma of the Congress today said the country has suffered huge losses due to delay in bringing the concept of Goods and Services Tax (GST) bills. It was delayed for seven years because of political differences. However, GST will increase country's GDP in the long term. <br/><br/>Initiating the discussion on four GST bills in the Rajya Sabha, Mr Sharma said that he has doubts about multiple GST rates and there is no clarity. He made it very clear that final GST rates should not be unaffordable and a burden on the people. <br/><br/>Finance Minister Arun Jaitley moved the Central GST, Integrated GST, GST-compensation to states and Union Territory GST bills for consideration and return. The bills were passed by Lok Sabha last week.<br/><br/>Bhupinder Yadav of the BJP said, following implementation of GST, the country will become an economic union. He said, four decades ago, the country was confined to a closed economy without paving way for healthy competition. He said GST will bring fair and transparent competition in the country and it will also address the problems on account of regional imbalances.
