Country receives 10% more rainfall this month: IMD

The country has received 10 per cent more rainfall during the first fortnight of this month. During the period from 1st to 16th of June, the country as a whole received 74.1 millimeter rainfall than the normal of 67.1 millimeters. According to region-wise data provided by India Meteorological Department, Northwest India recorded 17 per cent per cent more rainfall than the normal rainfall of 24.5 millimeters.<br/><br/>The Central India received 28 per cent more rainfall against the normal rainfall of 54.7 millimeter while South Peninsula registered 22 per cent more rainfall than the normal rainfall of 76.1 millimeter. East and Northeast India registered 147.7 millimeter rainfall which is 10 per cent deficient than the normal rainfall of 164.6 millimeters. <br/><br/>The IMD also added that the southwest monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of Central Maharashtra, and Chattisgarh, most parts of Odisha, remaining parts of West Bengal and some parts of Jharkhand and Bihar. According to the Agriculture Ministry, total acreage under all kharif crops so far stood at 92.85 lakh hectare which is higher than 87.59 lakh hectare in the same period of last kharif season. Rice has been sown in 9.22 lakh hectare, pulses in 2.22 lakh hectare, sugarcane in 47.52 lakh hectare and cotton in 16.67 lakh hectare.
