Country likely to see normal monsoon this year

The Ministry of Earth Sciences has said that the country is likely to see normal monsoon this year, dissipating fears of any drought-like conditions or El Nino weather pattern in the second half of the season. An official said, all indicators point towards a normal monsoon just like last year. He said, there is no adverse atmospheric or oceanic condition that may lead to deviation of monsoon from the normal range in the country this year. The June-September Monsoon is vital for Agricultural output and economic growth which irrigates around 60 per cent of farm lands in the country.

With various parts of the country witnessing pre-monsoon showers, the Met department is set to give an official forecast in the last week of April and the monsoon onset date by May 15.
