Country is able to meet the surge in peak demand for power during this year: Govt to Parliament

The Centre has said the country has been able to meet the surge in peak demand for power during the period of April to October this year which went up to a record 200.5 gigawatts. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha today, the Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy RK Singh said the peak power demand surged to the record levels as against 176.4 gigawatt during the same period last year. He said the public sector Coal India Limited supplied 292 million tonnes of coal to power plants during the period, which is 22.7 percent more as compared to the same period last year.<br />
